I know firsthand the impact that
introducing arts at an early age can have on developmental and mental wellbeing. 10 years later,
I am a senior at UNC - Chapel Hill studying public policy and music. I run a nonprofit called
Musical Empowerment which provides free, one -on -one music lessons to underserved children
in the Chapel Hill - Carrboro area, and I have never stopped believing in the arts as a way to level
the playing field and inspire the best in each of us. I would love to use my skills and campus
resources to connect the arts commission with more students and more opportunities for growth.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
As a music student at UNC - Chapel Hill, I have witnessed a major divide in the arts between
campus and the community. This year, I want to serve as a bridge to fill this gap and connect the
arts commission with campus resources, while expanding the scope of what it means to support
the arts in the local community.
Conflict of Interest:
I am student and run my chapter of Musical Empowerment as a volunteer.
