Fikes, ext. 2490 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS; <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />_ Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To receive as information a list of proposed Continuum of Care Committee <br />members to participate in the development of a Continuum of Care Plan far Orange County. <br />BACKGROUND: On September 19, 2000, at the request of the Inter-Faith Council for Social <br />Services, the BOCC adopted a resolution approving the notification of the 1994 Emergency <br />Family Support and Shelter Task Force to participate on the Orange County Continuum of Care <br />Committee with a letter from the Board Chair. <br />The Continuum of Care is a community plan developed by the U.S. Department of Housing and <br />Urban Development (HUD) that is designed to organize and deliver housing and services to <br />meet the specific needs of homeless individuals and families as they move to stable housing <br />and maximum self-sufficiency. Key components of the plan include: outreach/assessment; <br />emergency shelter; transitional housing; and permanent housing. Counties are required to <br />engage in the Continuum~of Care planning process in order to access available HUD funding far <br />homeless families. The plan is developed by a Continuum of Care Committee comprised of <br />representatives of, at a minimum, not-for-profit organizations, homeless persons and/or formerly <br />homeless persons, service and housing providers, for-profit businesses, and local and/or state <br />representatives. <br />The Inter-Faith Council will serve as the lead agency for the Continuum of Care Committee. <br />They will lead the group in the development of a Plan that will include the identification of <br />possible revenue sources to continue operations of Project Hom_ eStart as._w~ll_as estab4isf~-long - -- <br />range goals for meeting the needs of the homeless populatioro in our community. This is not a <br />County-appointed group, however, housing issues are such an important element of our <br />community that IFC has sought and received the support of County government and its <br />resources in this process. <br />
