ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: September 4, 2018
Action Agenda
Item No. 6 -c
1
SUBJECT: Resolution Approving a Policy of Additional Inspections for Residential Projects
DEPARTMENT: Planning and Inspections
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
1. Resolution Michael Rettie, Chief Building Official,
- Exhibit 1- Example of Inspections (919) 245 -2604
Being Required by Orange Craig Benedict, Planning Director, (919)
County 245 -2592
- Exhibit 2- Resolution Petition
Explanation
2. Staff has listed these additional
inspections with how each relates to the eight listed inspection types in Exhibit 2 to the proposed
resolution.
The proposed policy would ensure that builders and subcontractors have the flexibility and
control over the scheduling and sequence of inspections when, in the construction schedule and
process, the issue is most efficiently verified and repairs can be effectively made with minimal
cost or delay. The Orange County Inspections Division, as well as those being served, would
benefit by having certain components available for inspection when most accessible for
verification.
These inspections are intended to facilitate better construction projects by fostering a mutually
beneficial partnership between the building community and Inspections Division.
