She owns and operates a small <br />business called Advocates in Action and speaks around the country on issues related to self- <br />advocacy and rights and access for people with disabilities. She is committed to helping people <br />with disabilities to be able to live as independently as possible in the community of their choice. <br />Through her advocacy work, Ellen served for several years on both The North Carolina Council <br />on Developmental Disabilities and the Carrboro Transportation Advisory Board. She created <br />Peer Connections a Health and Wellness Program for people with intellectual disabilities and got <br />the Money Follows Person enacted in North Carolina. Ellen is currently involved in the local and <br />state self-advocacy groups RANE (Real Advocates Now Emerging) and People First. She was a <br />board member of National APSE (Association of People Supporting Employment/First) and sits <br />on DWAC (DMA and DHHS Department Waiver Advisory Committee).
