t
the CPLUC committee. The idea of `farm zoning' was negatively discussed.
One member gave an example of current permitting process being too stringent
for a farmer that wants to give a son or daughter a lot to build a house on.
Another example of extensive regulations was given. Currently there is a
drought assistance program offered by the federal government where they will
drill a well for a farmer (to water cattle /livestock) if he agrees to not use it for
human consumption for a certain time and protect the watershed area around
the well. However, when the farmer comes to environmental health for the
permit to drill the well he is still required to pay an expensive fee. It seems that
there should be an exception for this type of well drilling permit fee. A discussion
of protecting the farmer's right to farm was highlighted with the notion of getting
Gerry Cohn of AFT to be a speaker in the near future.
Members were asked to e-mail ideas on the Agri business options to staff as well
as other concerns. Mandell and Recor asked members to convey their
comments for the Land Use Committee to them also.
Items for next agenda
Review comments from the APB on the Voluntary Farmland Preservation
Program Ordinance (VFPPO) and the memo from the county attorney.
Review APB's comments on the Farm Festival presentation.
Review the APB's ideas on the Agricultural Business Options proposal.
Revisit APB charge /mission.
ITEM #5: Adjournment
The APB adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
DRAFT
