The project is a joint effort of the Orange County Economic Development Commission and Cooperative Extension Service. The guide is not an exhaustive list of all farm goods and services found in Orange County. The first edition contains listings of farmers who responded to a brochure mailed last fall. The mailing list was compiled from all of the mailing lists maintained by the Cooperative Extension Service and included more than five hundred farmers. Brochures were also available at several businesses in the county that cater to the farming community. Some listings in the guide were also included due to referrals from farmers who responded to the brochure. Guidelines were established to determine the eligibility of farmers to be included in the guide. Farmers who own or lease farmland and derive an income from the farm by growing crops or raising livestock were eligible to list goods and services in this guide. Additionally, farmers who own their farms and are offering related services not traditionally thought of as agricultural were permitted to list those services as well.
