45 <br />INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE <br />Regional Planning Efforts <br />To ensure that we are protecting one million acres of important open space and not just any <br />million acres of land, we must sul: ort local open space planning efforts. A number of these <br />efforts are underway across the state in various different forms. The most effective planning <br />efforts are the ones that go beyond individual local boundaries to incorporate the open space <br />needs of an entire region. Ideally, these plans will be developed in a way that allows for <br />blending across regions as well. The following map shows where regional open space planning <br />efforts are either underway or being considered. <br />Map 2 -1 <br />Regional Open Space Planning Efforts <br />® Upper Catawba River Basin <br />M Voices and Choices <br />e Determining How to Proceed <br />Two regional planning efforts are more comprehensive than others in the state: The Charlotte <br />Area Voices and Choices program and the Triangle Area GreenPrint.
