John Link, County Manager <br />1 <br />MINUTES <br />HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION <br />JUNE 20, 1994 <br />The regularly scheduled meeting of the Human Services Advisory <br />Commission was held on Monday, May 17, 1994, at 7:30 p.m. in the <br />Government Services Center meeting room, Hillsborough, North <br />Carolina. <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Co- Chairs Jan Riordan and Karen Taylor, Jan <br />Schopler, Philip Cooke, Martha Branscombe, Mary Davison, Bev Foster <br />and Mary Bacon. <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Shirley Siegel, Don Willhoit, Tony Dalton, Barbara <br />Warren, and Curtis Tyler, Jr. <br />STAFF PRESENT: Assistant County Manager Albert Kittrell and Deputy <br />Clerk to the Board of Commissioners Kathy Baker, Cooperative <br />Extension Director Fletcher Barber, Housing and Community_ <br />Development Director Tara Fikes, and Public Health Director Dare <br />Reimer. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: <br />approved by consensus. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />The minutes of the May 16, 1994 meeting were <br />MEMBER REPORTS: Mary Davison requested help in soliciting new <br />members. Please contact Kathy Baker at 968 -4501 or 732 -8181 if you <br />would like an application sent to a potential member. <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS: None <br />HUMAN SERVICE MANAGEMENT TEAM MEMBER REPORTS: <br />I. Housing and Community Development (H &CD): Director Tara <br />Fikes distributed an information sheet on the H &CD Department as <br />well as Section 8 information for both tenant and landlord. The <br />mission of -the Orange County Housing and Community Development <br />Department is to assist low /moderate income families and elderly, <br />handicapped and disabled individuals to obtain and maintain safe, <br />decent and sanitary housing at reasonable and affordable rates. <br />Four programs allow the department to achieve this goal. The are: <br />1) Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program <br />2) HOME Investment Partnership Program <br />3) Section 8 Housing Assistance Program <br />4) Minimum Housing Code Enforcement Program <br />Copies of the hand -outs are in the permanent agenda file in the <br />Clerk's office. <br />2.
