Should there be a county -wide goal or percentage of increased
affordable housing?
B. How can we attain such a goal?
BACKGROUND:
Attached are excerpts from two county -wide policy documents containing affordable
housing goals and strategies. The first excerpt was taken from the document
entitled Shaping Orange County's Future - Report and Recommendations. The
Shaping Orange County Task Force produced this report in April of 2000. The
"Housing and Community Development Consolidated Plan 2005 - 2010" plan establishes
a unified, coordinated vision for community development actions for the upcoming five
years. The Orange County Consortium must submit a consolidated plan every five
years to illustrate to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) not
only the housing and community development needs in Orange County, but also a
coordinated plan to meet those needs. As the lead agency responsible for developing
the consolidated plan, the Orange County Department of Housing and Community
Development is submitting this consolidated plan as an application for funding for the
HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) Program. This Plan also serves as the official
application from the Town of Chapel Hill for the Community Development Block Grant
Program (CDBG).
1 of 8
