As CHCCS have more students than OCS, the difference in per pupil
expenditures translates into a CHCCS budget that is approximately 12 million dollars more
each year than the budget available to the Orange County Schools. In addition, judging from
the numbers of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch in each district, the majority
of students in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro City Schools come from families that are more
affluent than the families whose children attend the Orange County Schools.
