Carrboro. In fact, CHCCS ranks first in the state for local contributions to per pupil <br />expenditures. As CHCCS have more students than OCS, the difference in per pupil <br />expenditures translates into a CHCCS budget that is approximately 12 million dollars more <br />each year than the budget available to the Orange County Schools. In addition, judging from <br />the numbers of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch in each district, the majority <br />of students in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro City Schools come from families that are more <br />affluent than the families whose children attend the Orange County Schools. Nevertheless, <br />each district has diverse student bodies drawn from all socioeconomic groups, with complex <br />and specific needs and talents, and each is using its funds thoughtfully to offer educational <br />opportunities to every child in its schools. In the report that follows, we have tried to <br />indicate where the presence or absence of resources may have important repercussions for <br />students.
