Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-36 <br /> <br />Religious Facility <br />A structure in which persons regularly assemble for religious worship, which is maintained and controlled <br />by a religious body organized to sustain public worship. The term includes, but is not limited to: church, <br />mosque, synagogue, tabernacle, and temple. <br />Remedy a violation <br />To bring the structure or other development into compliance with State and Orange County laws and <br />regulations. <br />Repair Services <br />A land use offering the alteration, repair, mending, and/or servicing of goods without the retail of new, <br />used, or repaired goods. This land use category excludes engine repair/maintenance activities, which are <br />captured within the Automotive and Transportation land use category, and is further defined below: <br />A. Clothing: Including, but not limited to: cobbler, dress maker, fur repair/cleaning, general garment <br />alteration/repair, leather garment repair including shoes, and tailor services. <br />B. Electronic and Appliance: Including, but not limited to: camera/camcorders, cellular phones, <br />computers, dvd/video cassette players, dishwashers, grills, photocopiers, radio, refrigerators, <br />stereo/phonographic equipment, stoves/ranges, telephone/fax machines, televisions, two-way <br />radio, and typewriters. <br />C. Personal and Household Goods other than Appliances: Including, but not limited to: china, <br />clocks, cutlery including sharpening, exercise and athletic equipment, furniture repair including <br />reupholstery services, gun repair and maintenance, jewelry including watches, key duplicating, <br />and musical instruments including tuning, , <br />Repetitive loss <br />Flood-related damages sustained by a structure on two separate occasions during any ten year period for <br />which the cost of repairs at the time of each such flood event, on the average, equals or exceeds 25% of <br />the market value, or the tax value in the absence of recent comparative sales, of the structure before the <br />damage occurred. <br />Research Facility <br />An enclosed structure which accommodates research and research applications. Facilities may include <br />laboratories, offices, and other facilities for research and development, as well as prototype production <br />facilities for product creation. Prototype production shall be limited in scale to that necessary to fully <br />analyze the merits of the product <br />Research and Manufacturing Facility <br />An enclosed structure which accommodates research and research applications as well as related light <br />industrial uses. Facilities may include laboratories, offices, other facilities for research and development, <br />and production facilities. The use falls within the Manufacturing, Assembly, and Processing land use <br />category. <br />Reservoir, Class I <br />A body of water, such as a pond or lake, confined by a dam or other barrier to be used for public water <br />supply from which water flows by gravity or is pumped directly to a treatment plant or to a small <br />intervening storage basin and thence to a treatment plant. <br />Reservoir, Class II <br />A body of water, such as a pond or lake, confined by a dam or other barrier to be used for public water <br />supply from which water flows by gravity or is pumped to a Class I reservoir prior to final entrance to a <br />water treatment plant. <br />Residential Development <br /> 194
