Article 10: Definitions <br /> Section 10.1: Definitions <br /> <br />Orange County, North Carolina – Unified Development Ordinance Page 10-3 <br /> <br />intersect the horizontal and conical surfaces. The transitional zones are the areas <br />beneath the transitional surfaces. <br />(D) Horizontal Surfaces. A horizontal plane 150 feet above the established airport elevation, <br />the perimeter of which coincides with the perimeter of the horizontal zone. The horizontal <br />zone is established by swinging arcs of 10,000 feet radii from the center of the end of the <br />primary surface of each runway and connecting the adjacent arcs by drawing lines <br />tangent to those arcs. The horizontal zone does not include the approach and transitional <br />zones. <br />(E) Primary Surface. A surface longitudinally centered on a runway extending 200 feet <br />beyond each end of said runway. The elevation of any point on the primary surface is the <br />same as the elevation of the nearest point on the runway centerline. The width of the <br />primary surface is 1,000 feet. <br /> <br />A graphic example of the individual Airport Surface Zones is as follows: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Airport Visual Runway <br />A runway intended solely for the operation of aircraft using visual approach procedures. <br />Anchoring <br />The fastening of the mobile home to its mobile home stand in order to prevent upset or damage due to <br />wind, erosion, flooding, or other natural forces. <br />Appeal <br />A request from a review of an administrative interpretation of any provision of this Ordinance by the Board <br />of Adjustment. <br />Applicator <br /> <br /> 69
