Harvey, Planner III (919) 245-2597 <br />Craig Benedict, Director (919) 245-2575 <br /> <br />PURPOSE: To review and comment upon a Planning Director initiated UDO text amendment <br />package concerning the processing, review, and approval of applications for telecommunication <br />facilities. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: Session Law 2013-185, adopted on June 26, 2013, has modified how local <br />governments process new telecommunication tower applications. There are also new standards, <br />and time limits, associated with the review of equipment change outs and antenna co-location(s) on <br />existing towers. <br /> <br />Staff is proposing to revise existing language within the UDO to ensure consistency with State law. <br />For additional background, and a copy of the Session Law, please refer to Attachment 1. <br />Attachment 2 contains the text of the proposed UDO amendment. <br /> <br />Various County staff are also currently reviewing the proposed amendments so there may be <br />changes made in response to any staff comments received. <br /> <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Please refer to Section C.3 of Attachment 1. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Planning Director recommends the Board review and comment <br />on the proposed amendment package accordingly. <br /> <br />3
