Voices Together will promote learning in classrooms receiving weekly music therapy sessions by working to increase a student's ability to remain seated and engaged in a group setting, and teach positive coping skills students can use that will decrease the number of emotional or physical outbursts. Because of ongoing Orange County Outside Agency funding, Voices Together has had a very high impact with hundreds of students with developmental challenges from OCS. These students are now able to participate in their community after gaining critical life skills. While offering this program to the students in classrooms this program has also built capacity as our music therapists work closely with teachers. Teachers have learned new strategies, ideas and teaching structures from our weekly sessions that they have carried through to their classroom instruction for maximum outcomes. The proposed funding for 2018 -19 will help bring this program to all classrooms in the Orange County Public School Exceptional Classrooms. It will enable Voices Together to provide our program to those students that desperately need intervention services. Goal 1: Ensure a community network of basic human services and infrastructure that maintains, protects, and promotes the well being of all county residents. The Voices Together program aligns with the County's goal of ensuring a high quality of life and lifelong learning that enhances education at all levels. This program is designed for alignment with the Extended Content Standards. It has been such an effective intervention in the school setting precisely because its techniques help teachers and students meet goals established by the state and federal governments. A key part of the Extended Common Core Standards in every subject in the K -12 curriculum is the development of speaking and listening, and language skills. Voices Together's innovative model is based in music therapy that was developed by combining educational and therapeutic techniques for optimal outcomes. Special attention was paid to speech and language areas, basic educational learning techniques and social/ emotional learning techniques. Every Voices Together session offers continual interactive communication techniques that were developed specifically to prompt and cue neural and language response.
