DocuSign Envelope ID: 66DB6581- 30BA- 412A- BCF6- 57F9109A01BA
Location Description The Arts Center of Carrboro is a fully accessible venue, which is one of the reasons we
decided to partner with them. The values of accessibility, diversity, and inclusion were key
to our founding as an organization, and run throughout our programming. In addition to
all venues are handicap accessible, and every show will have a sensory friendly, "Lights
Up, Sounds Down" performance for adult and youth patrons with sensory- sensitive
needs. Each show will also have an audio - described performance for the visually
impaired, and we are reaching out to Arts Access to be able to offer American Sign
Language interpretations as well. Donors regularly sponsor free tickets for economically
disadvantaged patrons so that no one is turned away for lack of funds. Our membership
program includes an entry-level $5.00 tier to welcome members from all socioeconomic
backgrounds. We are also in the process of applying to be part of the Arts Accessibility
Learning Community, so we can continue to be a leading example of how organizations
can successfully pursue accessibility.
Artist Description The director, Jorie Slodki, was selected through our unique democratic member voting
system. Any woman in the triangle can propose a show to direct, and we hosted a live
pitch event at Imurj in Raleigh in April. Our several hundred members were able to vote
online over the course of a week, and the top three shows whose stories and directors'
vision resonated most with our members (and received the most votes) are being fully
produced by the Women's Theatre Festival.
Jorie then selected her production team, with the assistance of Festival Production
Manager Katy Koop and a meet -up fair we hosted for directors and technicians.
Actors were cast through open auditions. Our diversity and accessibility reps attend every
audition, and we choose to not require monologue prep to encourage anyone from the
community to feel welcome to attend. We welcome trans and nonbinary individuals at
auditions as part of our goals for inclusivity and diversity.
Are you hiring
Yes
multicultural artists with
the requested funds from
this grant?
What is the total amount
0
you will pay the
multicultural artists with
the funds you receive
from this grant?
How will the
These Shining Lives will be promoted online through multiple social media channels,
project /program be
through traditional print and radio ads, as well as local news coverage and radio
publicized and promoted
interviews, all under the direction of our Marketing Director, Cindy Jenkins. Cindy has put
to reach intended
together a timeline and strategy tailored for each show. These Shining Lives has graphic
participants?
posters designed by Areon Mobasher, and will have a video trailer released online across
all our channels as well.
How will you evaluate
The success of the program will be evaluated in several ways. First, we will track ticket
the success of the
sales and audience demographic information, to see how we reached out to the local
program?
community. We also conduct voluntary feedback surveys online with our members, and
collect general community impressions. Participants (Cast and crew) also have a chance
to give feedback on their experience. This information is gone over at board meetings and
used to plan for future festivals.
Our artistic director, Ashley Popio, also attends tech week rehearsals and opening night to
evaluate the artistic success of the program, and we also look at local media reviews for
useful feedback.
Budgeted Expense
Budgeted Income
Resumes of artists /administrators
Ashley_ Popio _Theatre_Resume_Short.docx.pdf
Cast—Crew Bios_These_Shining_Lives_.pdf
Bios_ Key_ Personnel_ Womens _Theatre_Festival_2018.pdf
