This
Summary musical fairy -tale for flute and piano with narration and props is
intended to delight and expose children in Orange County to the art
of classical music and storytelling. The performance will weave short
pieces of narration with short pieces of music which take the
audience on a journey with Luna as she encounters galloping horses,
swimming turtles, and other creatures including a fierce dragon. The
story comes alive with the addition of props such as hand puppets or
marionnetes. We plan to create a version in Spanish for the Latino
community as well. The full length program is 1 hour and 25 minutes
but can be abridged to a 45 minute version. We have not secured a
venue but will use funding from the grant to rent a community space
such as the Century Center or the ArtCenter. There is potential to
bring this program into other community spaces such as churches,
libraries or schools. We will begin rehearsals in September and will be
ready to perform in late Fall or early Winter.
Community Impact This program uses the art of storytelling and music to illustrate how
friendships can help one face and overcome life challenges. The two
venues we're proposing as performance space can hold 300 people.
If we bring the program to schools, there is potential to reach 500
students or more at each location. The creation and performance of
a Spanish language version of the program could potentially reach
many residents in Orange County who may not typically feel a
connection to concerts or programs offered in the community.
