Residencies will take place in regular classroom settings <br />(K -5). <br />Artist Description The ArtsCenter uses a core group of teaching artists who have <br />extensive experience working in schools and have worked through <br />the Artist in Residence program in past years. All of the following <br />artists have also completed an application and attended a Teaching <br />Artist Training Workshop at The ArtsCenter prior to being chosen as <br />a core artist: <br />- Virginia Queen has over 20 years of experience working as an actor <br />and teaching artist. She helped develop The ArtsCenter's Artist in <br />Residence program 12 years ago and has worked as a highly sought <br />after teaching artist with the program since that point. In 2016 she <br />also began managing The ArtsCenter's Artist in Residence program. <br />-Amy Kennan Amago has over 15 years of experience as a visual <br />artist and has designed, written, and taught rich, original art curricula, <br />in a variety of educational settings. She has extensive experience <br />using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) with students, creating and <br />teaching STEAM - focused lessons and creating a number of <br />interdisciplinary art units. <br />-Anita Woodley is an African - American literary and theatre teaching <br />artist, as well as an Emmy award - winning journalist, producer, <br />columnist, actress, poet, mixed -media folk artist, baker, and <br />playwright. <br />-Kim Arrington is an African - American teaching and performing artist <br />who uses poetry, drama, and music to reach audiences of all ages. <br />She has worked with The ArtsCenter's Artist in Residence program <br />since 2008 and also works as a singer and songwriter. In 2012, she <br />was the recipient of North Carolina Central University's 40 Under 40 <br />
