DocuSign Envelope ID: 2E7A343C- DD67 -4CCF- 9973- C6DBD2418216
Project /Program In the 2018 -2019 school year, in partnership with The ArtsCenter,
Summary
approximately 1,800 students in grades K -5 at New Hope Elementary,
Central Elementary, Efland- Cheeks Global Elementary and Grady
Brown Elementary will participate in curriculum- integrated art
residencies with professional teaching artists - 24 total residencies.
This program will allow students to participate in Arts -Based Learning
Experiences (ABLE) residencies, which are five -day residencies
designed around a School Show at The ArtsCenter. During the
residencies, teaching artists will go into classrooms for four sessions
prior to students seeing shows at The ArtsCenter, and then one
session following the shows. On the final day of the residencies,
classroom teachers co -teach alongside teaching artists, and
parents /families are invited into classrooms to observe what their
children have been learning. This provides professional development
for classroom teachers, and it helps parents /families feel connected
to what their children are doing in school. In addition, grade levels
often times incorporate the material from the residencies into parent
nights, family sharing events or even district -wide events. In order to
ensure teachers are also learning new instructional strategies to
teach curriculum they can implement after the residency is over, they
will also participate in at least one school -wide professional
development workshop on arts integration each year. This will be the
eighth year the Artist in Residence program will be implemented with
all Title 1 elementary schools in the district, and the eleventh year
since initial implementation with the first Title 1 school.
Project Start Date
August 20, 2018
(no earlier than July
1, 2018)
Project End Date (no
June 11, 2019
later than June 30,
2019)
Project Goals
The Artist in Residence program is an Arts in Education program that
integrates the arts into the grade level curriculum. The following are
goals of the program:
-To reach students with varied learning styles, thus increasing
academic achievement in the designated curriculum area(s)
-To increase student engagement and motivation
-To provide underserved students opportunities to engage in the arts
when these opportunities are normally limited outside of school
-To provide classroom teachers with professional development
opportunities on arts integration
-To bring parents /families into learning experiences, thus creating an
even deeper impact that far exceeds learning in the classroom
