fobile Source Emissions Reduction Grants <br />http://daq.state.nc.us/Offices/Technical/Mobile/grants.f <br />14 <br />Mobile Source Emissions Reduction Grants <br />Table of Contents: <br />o purpose <br />~ Background <br />c Wby Mobile Source Emissions Reduction is_Imnortant to Maintain Good Air Quality! <br />~ Alternative uel Guidelines <br />~ Project Selection Criteria <br />~ Requirements for a Grant _ . <br />c How to apply for a_ Grant <br />~ Previous Grant A v~ards <br />Purpose <br />The purpose of the Mobile Source Emissions Reduction Grants is to achieve actual <br />reductions from on- and off- road mobile source related emissions in North Carolina ta-assist <br />the State in maintaining the National Air Quality Standards for primarily ozone and carbon <br />monoxide. <br />Background <br />In 1993, the North Carolina General Assembly passed Clean Air Legislation which <br />provided that beginning on January 1; 1995, certain portions of those taxes on the sale of <br />gasoline in North Carolina be used #o fund portions of the State Air Quality Program. <br />The. Department of Environment and Natural Resources formed a Grant Review <br />Committee to help determine how to use the revenues generated from the gasoline tax. The <br />committee represents a broad range of public interests, including environmental, industry, and <br />city, county, and various State government agencies. <br />Funding for these grants is provided by a tax of 1/64 of a cent per gallon of gasoline sold, <br />which currently generates about $800,000 annually. Grants will be awarded by the Department <br />of Environment and Natural Resources with the assistance of the Grant Review Committee. <br />Each year the Grant Review Committee selects a focus for the upcoming grant year. The focus <br />for the 2000 grants will be on the formation of partnerships between public and private entities <br />to expand the alternative fuel infrastructure in North Carolina. <br />Why Mobile Source Emission's Reduction is Important to Maintain Good <br />Air Quality <br />North Carolina currently is maintaining National Ambient Air Quality Standards for the <br />,a . ,~ <br />
