AGENCY INFORMATION (Be Very Brief and Concise) <br />Please provide the following information about your agency (2 pages OR LESS): <br />a) Years in Operation, Date of Incorporation (Month/Year): lncor orated Janua 1 <br />b) Agency's PurposelMission (no more than a few sentences): <br />The Mission of the Historic Hillsborough Commission is to preserve the Burwell School <br />Historic Site and to bring its complex and layered history and the history of 1911' <br />Century Hillsborough and Orange County to the public as a resource of education and <br />community life. <br />c) Types of Services the Agency Provides (bullet format): <br />• Free guided tours five days per week <br />• Open to the public 23 hours per week, free admission <br />• Lessons and tours for school groups grades 1 through 12 <br />• Programs for interest groups such as book clubs, DAR, history groups, <br />college students, etc <br />• Participation in town -wide events: Living History Days, Revolutionary <br />War Day, Last Fridays, and walking tours <br />• Free online database of genealogical research on the people of the site <br />• Rentals for weddings and events as possible <br />• Exhibits and brochures <br />d) Agency's History with Providing These Services. <br />The Burwell School Historic Site has welcomed more than 60,000 visitors since it opened, <br />including many schoolchildren learning about their community and the history of their <br />community. The site has hosted teachers from across the nation as part of teacher <br />enrichment programs sponsored by the Apprend Foundation, and has published the unique <br />Bonk of Burwell Students, Lives of Educated Women in the Antebellum South, by the <br />Commission's founding leader, Mary Claire Engstrom. Additionally the site has opened its <br />doors for a wide range of cultural experiences offered mostly free of charge: book readings, <br />music, history programs, children's programs and more. <br />e) Other Pertinent Agency Information (Ex.
