AGENCY INFORMATION (Be Very Brief and Concise) <br />Please provide the following information about your agency (2 pages OR LESS): <br />a) Years in Operation, Date of Incorporation (Month/Year): 10/1979 <br />The Women's Center, Inc. doing business as Compass Center for Women and <br />Families was incorporated on October 19, 1979 and has operated for over 38 years <br />as a non- profit organization. <br />During an organizational merger in 2012 the doing business as name Compass <br />Center for Women and Families came into use. In July 2012 Family Violence <br />Prevention Center of Orange County, Inc. (established in 2000) and The Women's <br />Center, Inc. (established in 1979) had a successful merger. <br />b) Agency's Purpose /Mission (no more than a few sentences): <br />Compass Center Mission Statement: Compass Center for Women and Families <br />helps all people navigate their journey to self - sufficiency, safety, and health. We <br />empower individuals and promote equal access to opportunity regardless of gender <br />or economic status. Our services include career and financial education, domestic <br />violence crisis and prevention programs, assistance with legal resources, and youth <br />health programs. <br />c) Types of Services the Agency Provides (bullet format): <br />- Financial Literacy Education <br />- Career Exploration and Preparedness <br />- Access to Legal Information <br />- Domestic Violence Crisis Services (24 -Hour Hotline, Court Advocacy, Support <br />Groups, Latinx Services, and Crisis Intervention) <br />- Adolescent Empowerment Programs <br />- Referral Line to Community Resources <br />d) Agency's History with Providing These Services: <br />We have a vision of empowerment for all of our clients that includes safety, security, <br />and economic self- sufficiency. The services for which we are applying for funding <br />have been our core services for many years. Since maintaining high service quality <br />and responding to community need is important to us we continue to evaluate and <br />refine these core services. Since their inception, both pre - merger agencies served <br />as leaders in our community. The Women's Center, Inc. has been highly regarded <br />for improving the lives of women and girls in the Triangle through our own work and <br />through collaborative community partnerships. Family Violence Prevention Center <br />was known for providing comprehensive and high - quality domestic violence crisis <br />services. The two agencies often experienced client overlap and decided that a <br />merger would conserve resources while providing more comprehensive and efficient <br />services. By combining agencies in 2012, Compass Center clients are now able to <br />access a larger continuum of important services under one organizational umbrella. <br />Staff trains and works with over 200 volunteers annually who donate more than <br />9,000 hours of time, some of whom have been with us more than 15 years, Our <br />organization is a community home for not just those seeking services but for our <br />volunteers who want to contribute meaningfully, <br />Agency Information 1/22/2018 5:50:18 PM P a g e 10 of 47 <br />
