Featured <br />readers: Pam Baggett, Joan Barasovska, Terri Greco, Janis <br />Harrington, and Priscilla Webster - Williams. <br />Writing About Domestic Violence <br />November 3, 2018 <br />Orange County Library, Hillsborough <br />Pam Baggett will create a safe space in which to write about family <br />and /or intimate partner violence. Writers who have not experienced <br />abuse are welcome to explore their thoughts on the violence <br />ingrained in our society. Pam is a former volunteer at the Compass <br />Center in Chapel Hill, where she co -wrote and facilitated a writing <br />support group for survivors of domestic violence. <br />African - American Poetry, Past and Present <br />February 19, 2019 <br />Location* <br />Celebrate Black History Month with a poetry reading featuring youth <br />slam team the Sacrificial Poets and Bull City Slammer Ashley <br />Lumpkin. An older poet, to be determined, will read work from <br />African - American writers who influenced her, as well as her own <br />poems. <br />Writing Political Poems <br />February 23, 2019 <br />Location* <br />Poets everywhere are speaking out about what they believe in. In this <br />generative workshop, we'll examine techniques used in work that <br />tackles tough topics like racial inequality, immigration, war, climate <br />change, and governmental incompetence. We'll then use those <br />techniques to begin our own poems. <br />International Women's Day Poetry Reading <br />March 8, 2018 <br />Flyleaf Books, Chapel Hill <br />Celebrate International Women's Day with a reading by ten poets of <br />diverse age, race, and background, all female or who identify as <br />female. Each poet will read three poems on the themes of who we <br />are; what matters to us; and a woman who has loved, inspired, or <br />influenced us. <br />
