The purpose is to give voice to women's <br />experiences through visual and written art forms and to educate the <br />general public about these concerns. <br />Nancy Smith, an Orange County water media and collage artist is <br />collaborating with women writers of different cultures and <br />nationalities to produce the Gallery Event that will include a show of <br />24- 30 of Nancy's paintings along with selected authors' readings <br />inspired by each painting. <br />Each month, starting in May 2018, Nancy posts 4 -5 images of her art <br />on her website and on facebook to call for writer's submissions. <br />These posts are targeted toward local, national, and international <br />writers groups. Four writers including Anne Anthony, caren stuart, <br />Leah Silverman, and Mary Lambeth Moore review the submissions <br />along with Nancy each month. One writing per painting is selected <br />and the winners announced the following month on the 15th. The <br />winners are presented with a free giclee print of the art they wrote <br />about. See the call here: <br />http://nancysmithfineart.com / women - speak -a -call- for - submissions- <br />of- written -word <br />Frank Gallery has consented to lease space for this event March 8- <br />10th 2019 in their community outreach gallery located at University <br />Place in Chapel Hill. <br />Nancy will donate 15% from all gallery sales to the Compass Center of <br />Chapel Hill to promote their work with women and families. <br />Community Impact Women Speak Gallery Event will consist of the artist and up to 30 <br />writers. It will be a free event and open to the public. The location in <br />University Place is convenient, handicap accessible and located on <br />the bus line. Nancy hopes to attract between 100- 150 attendees over <br />the course of the exhibit. Raising awareness and educating the <br />general public about women's issues is one expected outcome of the <br />event. <br />Another outcome will benefit the Compass Center of Chapel Hill. <br />Fifteen percent from the total gallery sales will be donated to this <br />organization for women and families. The Compass Center helps <br />people to navigate their journey to self- sufficiency, safety, and health. <br />They empower individuals and promote equal access to opportunity <br />regardless of gender or economic status. Their services include <br />career and financial education, domestic violence crisis and <br />prevention programs, assistance with legal resources, and youth <br />health programs. The organization serves around 6,000 individuals <br />from Orange, Durham, Chatham and Wake counties each year. <br />
