Project /Program For the upcoming 2018 -19 school year, the MES PTA plans to present Summary three different performances (two shows of each performance; six shows total) for the entire Kindergarten through 5th Grade student population. In total, the performance fees are $5,000. We request $2,500 from the Grassroots grant, and the MES PTA will provide $2,500 in matching funds. The performances include: - Number Drummer - September 2018 - Queen Nur - November 2018 - Flamenco Carolina - February 2019 Project Start Date September 24, 2018 (no earlier than July 1, 2018) Project End Date (no February 28, 2019 later than June 30, 2019) Project Goals The objective of the MES PTA Cultural Arts Program is to expose the entire population of approximately 500 students to a wide range of artistic expression throughout their elementary school years. Given the demographic and socio- economic composition of our school, MES students benefit greatly from the shared experience of a diverse cultural arts program; however, many of our students have very few opportunities to attend cultural arts performances outside of school. The performances organized through the MES PTA Cultural Arts Program provide a common context for students to understand and respect each other's differences, express their own unique perspectives, expand their knowledge about the world, and make meaningful connections between the arts and the lessons they are learning in the classroom.
