We strive to meet the artistic <br />and cultural needs of our community through a diversity of events <br />and programs that feature regional artists for the enjoyment and <br />education of the general public. <br />Our mission is "to enrich our community through the arts." Our <br />outreach extends to communities of Hillsborough, Orange County, <br />North Carolina and beyond. <br />The HAC's operating structure consists of 12- member Board of <br />Directors, 2 part -time employees (program coordinator and <br />bookkeeper), and 23 program chairs who oversee the management <br />and operation of more than 11 programs including: <br />- Last Fridays free concert series with arts, crafts, and non - profit <br />organizations including town and county organizations around the <br />Historic Orange County Courthouse; <br />- Hillsborough Last Fridays Art Walk, during which venues unite to <br />celebrate and present art; <br />- The Hillsborough Handmade Parade, which features community <br />workshops culminating in a handmade puppet parade and has <br />become a valued local tradition; <br />- Parlor Concerts, which showcase live performances in historic <br />homes; <br />- Art in the Heart of Hillsborough, where artists sell their wares and <br />interact with the public at a personal and commercial level; <br />- River Park Concert, attended by 4,000 people who enjoy a free all - <br />day concert at River Park; <br />- The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop, which provides <br />a consistent sales venue for the work of local artists; <br />- Solstice Lantern Walk, when more than 2,000 people carry their <br />artistic, creative lanterns to light up the night along Riverwalk, and <br />- Paint it Orange: Plein Air Paint -Out and Wet Paint Sale, a joint <br />fundraiser with the Orange County Arts Commission.
