Its mission is, "Enriching our community through the arts." Since 1987, HAC has been
serving the community through a range of programs and events that employ local creative talent,
strengthen citizen engagement and enhance the economic vibrancy of Orange County. It serves
thousands of citizens from all walks of life every year.
HAC is guided by a 12- member Board of Directors. Board members oversee the management and
operation of over 10 annual programs. HAC also employs 2 part -time employees that perform day -to-
day operations: a bookkeeper and a program coordinator. Programs are funded through
partnerships and donations, and by grants from such entities as the NC Arts Council per the OCAC,
and the Hillsborough Tourism Board.
Free Spirit Freedom is a cultural arts initiative within HAC that emerged in 2010 to acknowledge,
preserve and celebrate the diverse heritage of Orange County. Co- founders Thomas Watson and
Renee Price volunteer their time and services in cooperation with local residents, artists and cultural
enthusiasts. We combine photography, storytelling, literature and other art forms to highlight the
people, places and events of yesteryear and today, primarily through the lens of African -
Americans... with a view to a better tomorrow.
FSF projects and events are supported by grants and donations, thus allowing FSF to offer most
events free of charge to the broader community, particularly to attract and serve historically
marginalized and low- wealth residents and visitors.
During FY18 -19, will your No
organization receive
operational support funding
from the North Carolina
Arts Council or the North
Carolina Department of
Natural and Cultural
Resources?
Organization's EIN 562163979
Organization Website www.hillsboroughartscouncii.org
Authorizing Official's Name Thomas Watson
Authorizing Official's Title HAC Board Member, FSF Co- Founder
Authorizing Official's Phone 919 - 260 -3386
Authorizing Official's Email thomaswatson30@yahoo.com
Applicant Race Black/African American
Financial Overview
8e64aaa9- 915f- 48dc- 8bb6- 9dcd41184390.xlsx
