We concentrate on the musical traditions of the South, including blues, gospel, string band, Native American and singer songwriter traditions, which are all vital to our cultural wellbeing. Together, they form a deep aquifer from which the world continues to draw artistic inspiration. Music is an essential part of the social fabric that binds us together as a nation. We strive to bring diverse audiences together to celebrate our shared cultural heritage in order to improve their sense of self, community and serve as a catalyst for social progress. Music Maker identifies and serves artists who are vital links in our American musical heritage, and whose music communicates part of an important story. We promote cultural resiliency and sustainability, two defining strengths of American roots music. We create social equity through our working relationships with artists, which are centered on respect for the artist as an individual and their unique musical expression. We believe that as traditional artists gain recognition and respect, there is a positive ripple effect among the communities to which they belong.
