Performance Descriptions for the 2018 -19 school
year are as follows (total cost $5,000):
Children's Theatre of Charlotte: Rapunzel
October 15 -19, 2018 (1 show for grades K -2 at $1000)
Our reimagined version of the classic tale takes on new life and a
softer message in a beautifully adapted and visually moving story.
Nan so loves her adopted daughter, Rapunzel, that she builds her a
wonderful tower to keep her safe from the dangers of the world. As
Rapunzel grows, she and Nan argue as Rapunzel tests boundaries
and seeks independence. Rapunzel focuses on the parent /child
relationship as it tests the boundaries of love, trust, perseverance
and independence.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte: Spelling 2 -5 -5
October 15 -19, 2018 (1 show for grades 3 -5 at $1000)
Simon's a terrific speller, and now he has a chance to shine as a
contestant on a televised spelling bee. Simon's brother, Jake, who
has autism, unwittingly reveals he's also a gifted speller in a way
that's uniquely his. Sibling rivalry takes center stage as Simon faces
choices about his role as the protective big brother and his desire to
gain celebrity status. Spelling 2 -5 -5 takes a poignant look at bullying,
inclusion, compassion and what it means to have empathy for
others.
Flamenco Carolina
February 11 -15, 2019 (2 shows at $850 each)
Flamenco Carolina represents the flamenco art form of song, dance
and instrumental music associated with the folkloric music traditions
of Southern Spain. This music tradition includes tambourines, bells,
wooden castanets and guitar with articulated movements reflective
of the rich history of this culture. This Durham -based flamenco group
consists of several dancers, a guitarist and singer dedicated to
preserving flamenco through performance and education.
Poetry Alive!
January 7 -11, 2019 (2 shows at $650 each)
Poetry Alive! performances provide students with a curriculum
enhancing in -depth exploration of literary analysis, writing and
speaking skills. Poetry Alive! high- energy assembly shows are
presented by a team of two professional performers. A typical 40 -50
minute show includes 20 -25 poems tailored to fit the ages and
interests of the audience. The poems, memorized and performed
theatrically, are found in popular textbooks and anthologies.
