DocuSign Envelope ID: 542A38B8- 9740 -46EF- 9829- D336644631BB
Artist Description Our first cultural art show of the 2018/2019 school year will be
Number Drummer Live, in September. Number Drummer Live is an
interactive production where the entire audience "drums" up math to
create a spectacular rhythmic performance. Every student plays an
instrument during the 50- minute performance. Math skills include
addition, multiplication, fractions, and money. Music skills include
beat, rhythm, timbre, dynamics, tempo, and more. We chose this
group because it offers a unique concept and it is unusual to find
math -based cultural arts shows. We also appreciate that this show
has 100% student participation.
Our second group, Poetry Alive! will come in January and was
chosen because CES has not had a show based on poetry for many
years. In addition, this show will integrate well with our literacy
curriculum. Poetry Alive! high- energy assembly shows are presented
by a team of two professional performers and include 20 -25 poems
tailored to fit the ages and interests of the audience. The poems,
memorized and performed theatrically, are found in popular
textbooks and anthologies. Poetry Alive! performances provide
students with a curriculum enhancing in -depth exploration of literary
analysis, writing and speaking skills.
Our final show, Common Chords, will come in March. Common
Chords is a musical collaboration between two musicians, Robert
Jones and Matt Watroba, who will take our students on a musical
journey that tells the story of how American music like bluegrass,
blues, rock -n -roll, Motown, and hip -hop, grew from a family tree of
European and African instruments, styles and stories. We chose this
group because of their focus on using music, art, and cultural
expression to connect diverse communities, which we think will
resonate well with our multicultural school community.
Are you hiring Yes
multicultural artists
with the requested
funds from this
grant?
What is the total 2000
amount you will pay
the multicultural
artists with the funds
you receive from this
grant?
How will the
All three performances will be a part of the school day and all
project /program be
students will get a chance to attend. Teachers will receive information
publicized and
about upcoming performances and a study guide in the weeks before
promoted to reach
the performance. Performances will be written about in the CES
intended
newsletter, which is electronically delivered to all parents in our
participants?
school community and will include the NCAC and OCAC logos and
funding credit lines.
