The EDC examined existing plans and studies and conducted a web - <br />based survey on the local economy; these efforts formed background information for an <br />Economic Development Summit, held January 7, 2004. Summit participants identified four key <br />areas and formed work groups around each area. The attached draft summarizes the overall <br />strategy and specific strategies developed by the work groups in the four key areas: <br />Business Climate <br />Infrastructure <br />Workforce Development <br />Quality of Place <br />To date, over 120 county residents have contributed over 1300 volunteer hours to help craft <br />this strategic vision for economic development in Orange County. The Economic Development <br />Commission approved the draft at its October 14, 2004 meeting. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The purpose of the joint meeting is to elicit questions and comments <br />from the Board of County Commissioners so there is no financial impact at this time. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board review the draft plan and <br />discuss any questions or concerns. <br />
