Eddie Kirk <br />'~ Orange County Flanning Department <br />306-F Revere Road <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />Re; Class A Special Use Permit Application-Recycling Facility-Johnson Tract <br />Dear Mr. Kirk: <br />In Accordance with your request for additional information, we at~er the following: <br />In support of Section 8.2.1 ofArticle 8-Special Uses <br />•. 8.2.1:b(1)- The use will maintain or promote the public health, safety and general <br />welfare; if located where proposed and developed and operated accordin~~ to the plan <br />as submitted; <br />The application indicates that the existing recycling area provides a much needed <br />service for the community. The proposed buildings will help to insure the proper <br />operation of the landfill by allowing recycling staff to work in an area protected <br />from the weather. It will also help the County meet the waste reduction goals of <br />45 percent by 200,1 and 61 percent, by 2006. <br />• 8?.l.b(2)- The use will maintain or enhance the value of the contiguous property <br />(unless the use is a public necessity, in which case the use need not maintain or <br />enhance the value of contiguous property); <br />The application indicates the buildings will improve the operating efficiency of the <br />existing recycling operation and is therefore a public necessity. <br />• 8.2.I.b(3)- The location and character of the use, if developed according to the plan <br />submitted, will be in harmony with the area in which it is tv be located and the use is in <br />compliance with the plan for the physical development of the County as embodied in <br />these regulations or iln the comprehensive Plan, or, portion thereof, adopted by the <br />Board of County commissioners; <br />
