The Committee adopted the proposed notes on the July <br />20, 2016 meeting. The Committee set the following dates for three more meetings: Tuesday, <br />August 23; Monday, October 17; and Tuesday, October 25. <br />Brainstorming Solution Ideas <br />Temporarily postponing judgment, the Committee generated the following ideas for addressing <br />the three problems it identified on July 20: <br />Safety <br />x Prevent errant round from crossing property line via ordinance. <br />x Sobriety test <br />x Detailed guidelines for safe berm/back stop via education, pamphlet, etc. <br />o Organize the above by projectile type/by gun. <br />x Provide information so that residents can know where shooting ranges are. <br />x Guidelines for law enforcement to use in assessing safety problems <br />x Ordinance to give law enforcement “teeth” <br />o Develop specifics based for example on Lenoir County, other counties, other <br />states <br />o Regulated by distance/proximity to school/proximity to other structures <br />o Contain the projectile <br />Noise <br />x Restrict shooting to times between sunup and sun down. <br />x Ordinance based on Chatham County ordinance (adopted October 2015) <br />o By decibels(dB) <br />x Lift firearms exemption from Orange County noise ordinance
