H. Advocate for human services policies already adopted by the Board of <br />Commissioners or recommend general policy statement for the Board of <br />Commissioners consideration. <br />Note: Advocacy role should not preempt roles of advocacy already established by- <br />current public boards (DSS, Health, Aging) <br />3. AUTHORITY /JURISDICTION OF THE HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION_ <br />AS IT RELATES TO THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, NON- DEPARTMENTAL <br />HUMAN SERVICES AGENCIES AND MANDATED HUMAN SERVICES BOARDS <br />(HEALTH, SOCIAL SERVICES AND MENTAL HEALTH. <br />A. The Human Services Advisory Commission shall be appointed by and responsible <br />to the Board of Commissioners and shall conduct an annual work session with, <br />and present reports to the Board of Commissioners regularly. <br />B. Cooperative relationships with mandated boards and County human services <br />departments. <br />C. Coordinate with Town Human Service Boards and other planning groups. <br />4. COMPOSITION OF THE HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION <br />A. Eighteen members shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners; the Board <br />may appoint up to four additional members: <br />1) The composition shall include a nominee from the following <br />Boards /Associations: <br />a) Social Services, <br />b) Mental Health, <br />c) Public Health, <br />d) Department on Aging, <br />e) Greater United Way of Orange County, <br />f) Orange Congregations in mission, <br />g) Inter -Faith Council for Social Service, <br />h) Co- operative Extension Council, <br />i) Board of Commissioners liaison. <br />j) Communities -In- Schools <br />k) Partnership For Young Children <br />2) The County Commissioners are responsible for appointing eight members <br />who provide balanced Township representation including service recipient <br />representation, which could include a current recipient, a family member of <br />current recipient household, a former recipient, or a member of a past <br />recipient's household. <br />3) The Board of Commissioners may appoint up to four additional members <br />representing any human services group; the appointments should reflect <br />current county priorities. <br />4) Staff support will be provided by County Manager's office and County <br />Commissioner's office. <br />
