YOUNG-AT-LARGE <br />The Human Services Advisory Commission met in regular session at 5:30 p.m., August 20, 2001, at the <br />Southern Human Services Center, 2501 Homestead Road, Chapel Hill, N.C. <br />Call to Order 5:30 p.m. <br />ESTABLISHMENT OF QUORUM: Co -Chair Wash announced that a quorum was present. <br />Members Present: Louise Echols, Robin Barnhill, Mel Hurston, Rosetta Wash, David Thompson, and Marvin <br />Block. Dee Gamble, former member who represented the Orange County Board of Social Services, was there <br />also, to lead the Facilitator's Training. Guests present: Mr. Rex Teves, Director of the Association of <br />Community Agencies. <br />Members Absent: Debbie Kinert, Co- Chair; Mary Bowe, DSS Board; Barry Jacobs, BOCC; Sue Russell, <br />Partnership for Young Children; Rebecca A. Young, At- Large. <br />Staff Present: Nancy Paciga, Assistant to the Clerk to the Board <br />Staff Absent: Corinthia Barber, Assistant to Albert Kittrell, Assistant County Manager; Sharron Hinton, <br />Management Analyst. <br />Minutes of July 16, 2001 approved with one change: Mr. Thompson did NOT leave at 5:30 p.m. <br />Discussion ensued about 2001 Human Services Forum, "POVERTY IN ORANGE COUNTY: THE <br />CHALLENGES THAT REMAIN," Sept. 12, 2001, 8:45 Am - 3:00 p.m., Friday Continuing Education Center, <br />Chapel Hill, N.C. <br />2. No CEU's this year because of time factor and the cost has gone up dramatically (from $3 to $10) . Please <br />consider it for next year. It is a good way to get better participation in the Forum. <br />3.Little gifts : THIS YEAR: mugs with candy in them for SPEAKERS ONLY. (Staff was directed to arrange <br />this.
