HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />July 19, 1999 Page 1 of 3 <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 The regularly - scheduled meeting of the Human Services Advisory Commission was held <br />4 on Monday, July 19, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. at the Government Services Center, in <br />5 Hillsborough, N.C. <br />6 <br />7 MEMBERS PRESENT (Those Present Are Bold And Underlined) Judy Cox, Co- <br />8 Chair, Louise Echols, Co- chair, Natalie Ammarell, Christine Barfield, Marvin Block, <br />9 Dee Gamble, Mel Hurston, Barry Jacobs, Lynette Jeffries, Deborah Kinert, Geno <br />10 Pichette, Sue Russell, Herschel Slater, Donald David Thompson, Jr. <br />11 <br />12 STAFF PRESENT (Those Present Are Bold And Underlined): Albert Kittrell; Nancy_ <br />13 Martin <br />14 <br />15 WELCOME AND MEMBER UPDATE: The members introduced themselves and gave <br />16 updates on their department's activities. A newly- appointed member, Ms. Natalie <br />17 Ammarell, representative of the Interfaith Council, was welcomed this evening. <br />18 <br />19 MEMBERSHIP - O.P.C. Mental Health position <br />20 Mr. Albert Kittrell reported that he has spoken to Mr. Tom Maynard, Director of OPC <br />21 Mental Health, regarding the vacancy for that board. A recommendation is expected to <br />22 be forthcoming soon. <br />23 <br />24 MINUTES The minutes of June 28, 1999, were approved by consensus as corrected. <br />25 <br />26 1999 FORUM <br />27 <br />28 Finalization of Forum Name and Speakers <br />29 Mr. Albert Kittrell handed out a revised Forum Agenda and reviewed the changes with <br />30 the members. The Revised 1999 Forum Agenda was approved unanimously by <br />31 consensus. <br />32 <br />33 The keynote speaker tentatively will be Ms. Martha Olay - Crowley, Chair, Governor's <br />34 Advisory Council on Hispanic /Latino Affairs. Mr. Kittrell said that he has two other <br />35 choices for keynote speaker if Ms. Olay- Crowley is not available. <br />36 <br />37 The title of the Forum was discussed: "Building Confianza: Developing Trust and <br />38 Improving Access Through Service to Hispanic /Latino Community in Orange County." <br />39 <br />40 Mr. Barry Jacobs suggested changing the title to: "...Improving Access to Service to the <br />41 Hispanic /Latino Community...." This was adopted by consensus. <br />42 <br />43 The revised title is: "Building Confianza: Developing Trust and Improving Access to <br />44 Service to the Hispanic /Latino Community in Orange County." <br />45 <br />46 Letter of Invitation <br />47 A draft letter of invitation was also presented by Mr. Kittrell. This was reviewed and <br />48 discussed, and changes were noted by Mr. Kittrell. The edited letter of invitation for the <br />49 1999 Forum was then approved unanimously by consensus.
