C. Self - Determination Leadership Network funded through Robert <br />35 Wood Johnson to enable folks with developmental disabilities in statewide self - determination. Debbie <br />was asked as a member of that group to go the legislative oversight committee meeting on mental <br />health reform and, as a part of that endeavor, she got involved with the mental health, developmental <br />disabilities, substance abuse - ombudsman possibility for the State. Debbie is also leading a work group <br />to provide information to Representatives and Senators about this. If anyone would like to, they the may <br />40 join this work with this group. <br />45 <br />Marvin Block representing the Department on Aging Board, discussed how Channel 8 was a good <br />resource reading service for seniors. Can the elderly have a tax break? He also talked about elder abuse. <br />20% of the population in Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough are elderly and they are living longer. <br />Mary Bowe (substituting in place of Dee Gamble as the representative from the Board of Social Services.) <br />She reported that her Board is in the process of recruiting a new Director for Orange County DSS <br />(Department of Social Services). <br />50 Sharron Hinton brought everyone up -to -date on the HSAC Forum Reports and said that the Commission <br />needs to bear in mind the 1999 Report did not go out because of Albert Kittrell's accident which occurred <br />in December of that year.
