Human Services Advisory Commission — Minutes — January 8, 2001 — Page 4 of 4 105 Election of New Officers Co -Chair Kinert explained that usually new officers are chosen in November each year, but because of a lack of a quorum at the October and November meetings, this had to be tabled until now. A nominating committee to identify potential candidates for the Co- Chairs for 2001 was chosen. 110 It was decided by consensus that Mel Hurston and Rosetta Wash will comprise the Nominating Committee for Co- Chairs and will report back to the full Commission at the February 19, 2001 meeting with its recommendations. Non - Profit Agencies' Requests for Funding Sharron Hinton handed out the "Triangle Human Services 115 Agency Funding Application" and the instructions for same, and explained the process that the County follows to decide the amount of funds to allocate to the various non - profit agencies. She explained that some of the groups are better than others at articulating the services they provide. To help the agencies better understand the funding application process and how to best express their functions, there is a meeting planned this month to address these issues. Ms. Hinton explained further that the deadline for the 120 non - profit groups to submit the application for funding to the County Manager's office is March 9, 2001. She further explained that the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro have a similar application and funding process. Sharron said that the applications will then be reviewed by the Human Services Advisory Commission, 125 certain County Department Heads, and the Human Services Management Team before a final recommendation is made for funding. In April the applications are reviewed by the Human Services Advisory Commission. 130 Debbie Kinert explained that we break into small groups to review the applications. Debbie emphasized the difficulty of pulling small groups together outside the time frame of the regular Human Services Advisory Commission meetings; therefore, the April meeting is devoted to the review of the applications in small breakout groups. 135 Ms. Fuller asked if we could pick up the applications at the March meeting so that each member will have time to review them before the April meeting. 140 Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, February 19, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center, in Chapel Hill, N.C.
