YOUNG, AT -LARGE <br />ROSETTA WASH, <br />INTERFAITH COUNCIL <br />The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by Co -Chair Debbie Kinert. <br />Members Present: Debbie Kinert, Co- Chair; Karen Current (arrived at 6:10 p.m.); Hudson Fuller.(arrived <br />5 at 5:45 p.m.); Dee Gamble (arrived at 5:50 p.m.); Melvin Hurston; Barry Jacobs; Lynette Jeffries; Rosetta <br />Wash; Rebecca Young; Robin Barnhill; David Thompson. <br />Members Absent: Sue Russell; Marvin Block; Louise Echols, Co- Chair. <br />10 Staff Present: Sharron Hinton, County Manager's Office, and Corinthia Barber, representing Albert Kittrell, <br />Assistant County Manager; Nancy Paciga, Office of Clerk to Board of County Commissioners. <br />Staff Absent: Albert Kittrell, Assistant County Manager. <br />I- Member Updates : The members introduced themselves and gave updates on their departments' <br />activities. <br />Debbie Kinert spoke about a Clients' Rights Committee On Disabilities. <br />20 Sharron Hinton gave an overview of the upcoming Feb. 23 -24 Youth Summit to be held by the Orange County <br />Human Relations Department and the Schools. The issues discussed will include discrimination and <br />stereotyping. She also described the week -long Civil Rights Summit hosted by Orange County to be held in <br />April, 2001. <br />25 Robin Barnhill said that wintertime is a hard time financially for nonprofit groups like OCIM (Orange <br />Congregations In Mission) and, particularly, this winter with the increased electric bills. She also said that in <br />Orange County we are starting to count the number of homeless persons in the County. She added that some <br />students in our schools are basically homeless. <br />30 Sharron Hinton talked about the newly- formed Continuum of Care Committee led by the Interfaith Council <br />which will help develop affordable housing in the County. <br />Lynette Jeffries spoke about the need for meeting space for the Cooperative Extension Clubs. <br />35 Rosetta Wash said that the Homeless Shelter of the Interfaith Council (IFC) in Chapel Hill is overflowing with <br />people right now, and that even all the floor space is being used.
