• Targeted student messaging will be created for the New Year New
Commute and Bike to Work Week Campaigns.
Top Task #4: Public Relations
Description — The Public Relations Top Task deals with creating and maintaining relationships
with partners and with program visibility in the transportation planning process. The collaboration
will be an ongoing focus of the Orange County TDM Coordinator, as maintaining a network of
connections to support ongoing and quarterly TDM program initiatives is crucial for their success.
In the summer of 2018, The Orange County TDM Coordinator will collaborate with regional staff
and LSPs to determine the most effective routes for engagement with partners, elected officials,
and transportation planning entities and also set up meetings with all OCCO Program
stakeholders.
The TDM Coordinator will continue their membership in Association for Commuter Transporation
(ACT), and will participate in the ACT conference along with serveral other TDM Coordinators in
the region. Beyond learning and sharing best practices, participating in ACT will help build and
maintain connections for future collaborations.
The nearest neighbor of the OCCO Program is PART. This proximity along with the overlap of our
service areas should create good opportunities for partnership and mutual assistance in
managing transportation demand. Currently, PART's Route 4, the Alamance Burlington Express,
passes within less than a mile of a park and ride at Durham Tech's Orange County Campus
which is across the street from UNC Health Care's Hillsborough Campus. The TDM Coordinator
will explore this and other opportunities to integrate transit systems to increase options for
Orange County commuters.
Related Activities from Revised 7 -Year Plan
o 4.2.f Develop and disseminate outreach materials about the success of the TDM
Program. - The Orange County TDM Coordinator will collect data on the importance of
TDM efforts and the impacts of the Triangle TDM program in Top Task #3. They will then
use that data to highlight the importance of TDM for partners, elected officials and
transportation planning entities.
■ Proposed Outputs and Outcome Tracking
• 4 meetings with transportation planning entities
4.5.c Develop and customize outreach materials for government decision makers. -
The Orange County TDM Coordinator will develop outreach materials and presentations
tailored to the Board of Orange County Commissioners (BOCC) under Top Task #3 and
will deliver them as part of their public relations work. They will leverage existing
opportunities to interact with the Board, such as the annual Orange County Sustainability
and Environmental Responsibility Goal update. Specifically for Q1The Orange County
TDM Coordinator will also serve as an ongoing point of contact and source of commuter
information for the BOCC and any other Orange County local government official.
■ Proposed Outputs and Outcome Tracking
• 2 informational updates to elected officials
o 4.5.d Develop and customize outreach materials for business decision makers. —
The Orange County TDM Coordinator will establish relationships with the Hillsborough /
Orange County Chamber of Commerce and other partners and leverage their knowledge
and established business connections to create useful and relevant TDM materials for
the local business community.
• Proposed Outputs and Outcome Tracking
Triangle J
Council of Governments 14
