ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 12, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~_~ <br />SUBJECT: Outstanding County Program Award Presentation <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Lori Taft, ext, 2660 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To receive a 2004 Outstanding County Program Award for the Little River Regional <br />Park and Natural Area. <br />BACKGROUND: In 1991, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) <br />established the Outstanding County Program Awards to recognize innovative and creative <br />programs implemented by the counties, The awards acknowledge programs that involve a <br />uniquely innovative process, solution or idea to address a county or multi-jurisdictional issue <br />and /or to prevent a future problem from developing, The awards are categorized into three <br />areas: (1) Public Education /Participation; (2) General Government and (3) Human Services, <br />This year, Orange and Durham counties are the recipients of an Outstanding County Program <br />Award for the Little River Regional Park and Natural Area, The park, with acreage in both <br />counties, is the result of a partnership in conservation between Orange County, Durham <br />County, the Triangle Land Conservancy, and the Eno River Association, Other funding partners <br />include the Triangle Community Foundation, NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund, the NC <br />Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, federal Land & Water Conservation Fund, and the NC <br />Recreation Trails Program, <br />Representatives from NCACC will present the award to the County at the meeting, <br />The park is managed and operated by the Orange County Recreation and Parks Department. <br />The Environment and Resource Conservation Department worked on property acquisition and <br />planning for the park. Dave Stancil, ERC Director, Lori Taft, Recreation and Parks Director, and <br />members of their staffs will be in attendance. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board accept the award, <br />
