2 <br /> <br /> <br />IV. Hate Free Schools Coalition <br />A. Mr. Chuck Willingham introduced himself and discussed Hate Free Schools Coalition. He <br />shared the origins and the agenda of the coalition. He shared the most notable of the <br />coalitions efforts; the ban on the confederate flag in county schools. He commented <br />how the HRC and Hate Free Schools have common interest and how Hate Free Schools <br />would like to see more town hall meetings around race and relations. <br /> <br />V. Community Dinner <br />A. Nerys Levy introduced herself and discussed the Community Dinner. She explained April <br />29, 2018 will be the twenty‐first (21st) annual Community Dinner. She invited all HRC <br />members to the dinner. She explained the importance of the dinner is its ability to bring <br />different people together to celebrate community around food and entertainment. <br />B. Annette informed HRC members the HR&R Department are purchasing HRC members’ <br />tickets. <br /> <br />VI. County Updates <br />A. Ms. Annette Moore announced HR&R staff will be attending a Fair Housing training next <br />month in Chicago. She noted that staff is currently working on four cases. <br />B. Ms. Tara May reported on current HRC positions and applicants. She noted there were <br />six (6) total open positions. Two are at large, and the rest are Town positions. The HRC <br />can recommend for two positions. <br />C. Ms. May noted that Ms. April Chang and Ms. Sue Kinzer have resigned. <br />D. HRC members discussed four applicants and reviewed applications. HRC decided to <br />recommend Ms. Stacy Sewall, Ms. Caryn Ellis, and Ms. Stephanie Harrell. <br />E. Dr. Stroman will reach out to Ms. Olivia Fisher and express the HRC’s interest in her <br />joining a HRC committee and/or meeting(s). Dr. Stroman plans to express the HRC’s <br />interest in Olivia being a member of the Affordable Housing Advisory Board or joining <br />the HRC the next time a seat becomes available. <br />F. Ms. May will type up recommendations for Stacy Sewall and Stephanie Harrell. She will <br />also communicate with the Town of Hillsborough for them to recommend Caryn Ellis for <br />a Town seat. <br />G. Mr. Melvyn Blackwell announced HR&R staff has developed a logo to represent the HRC <br />and HR&R. Ms. May will feature the logo on the HRC’s webpage. Ms. Moore <br />highlighted that Mr. Blackwell will be going to an Equity Summit this month in Chicago. <br />H. Mr. Blackwell will share a link and information about the upcoming summit to HRC <br />members <br /> <br /> <br />VII. Subcommittee Updates <br />A. Pauli Murray Awards <br />1. All were satisfied with results/outcome of this year’s awards ceremony. <br />B. HRC Forum
