MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />June 1, 2018 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON FRIDAY: June 1, 2018 at the <br />Hillsborough Commons, Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Susie Enoch, and Earl <br />McKee. <br /> <br />GUEST: None. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Ann Wilkerson and Pat Garavaglia. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; and Crystal Mitchell, Human Services Manager. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:23 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />Susie Enoch’s name was misspelled in the April Board Minutes. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Earl McKee, the Board approved the minutes of April 16, 2018. Tamara Dempsey- <br />Tanner seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. Performance Measures <br /> <br />Nancy Coston provided the Board with an overview of the Memorandum of Understanding between <br />DHHS and Orange County. Ms. Coston reported the MOU is currently at the County Attorney’s <br />office being reviewed. The MOU has been a working document that has seen changes and this <br />current version was received yesterday. Ms. Coston highlighted some of the requirements while <br />also noting language had been added that the State must provide reliable data to the counties. <br /> <br />Ms. Coston reviewed the performance measures in detail with the Board highlighting State and <br />National statistics. Commissioner McKee asked for clarification around the definition of initiation in <br />child welfare services. Crystal Mitchell explained the definition and requirements around this policy. <br />Ms. Coston reported the State is supposed to send the data and where to find it to the counties. <br />Tamara Dempsey-Tanner asked when this information is supposed to be sent. Ms. Coston <br />responded no clear deadline has been established. Commissioner McKee asked about the <br />accuracy of the data.
