She said the Clean Path 2025 plan <br />is an alternative plan to Duke Energy’s plan for new gas plants, as a way to achieve renewable <br />energy. <br />Kim Piracci said the Board of County Commissioners signed a resolution last September <br />for Orange County to be fossil-free by 2050, and she said the Commission for the Environment <br />is very active in this area, and Brennan Bouma, Sustainability Coordinator, said the Covenant of <br />Mayors lays out how to proceed. She said she hopes the BOCC will approve this. <br />Bill Black said he supported the other two speakers. He said this Global Covenant of <br />Mayors brings different solutions to this problem that they are willing to share, and by joining <br />this, Orange County would join a community seeking to address a common problem. He <br />encouraged the Board of Commissioners to support this. <br />Suzy Lawrence said she is in strong support of this letter, and joining this covenant will <br />make tools available. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br />authorize the Chair to sign a letter indicating Orange County’s commitment to the Global <br />Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy as requested by the Orange County Commission <br />for the Environment. <br /> <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br />John Roberts said two members of the public here tonight to speak to Item 8-d. He <br />asked if the Board would consider moving this item up. <br />The Board agreed by consensus. <br /> <br />8d. Refund Request – Sports Endeavors, Inc. <br />The Board considered voting to adopt a resolution regarding denial of a refund request <br />submitted by Sports Endeavors, Inc. <br />John Roberts said taxpayers are permitted to make refund requests for taxes believed <br />to have been collected for unlawful purposes, or where clerical error has occurred. He said <br />Sports Endeavors, Inc. has made such a request, which is before the BOCC now. He said staff <br />has studied the issue closely, and made a recommendation to deny the request. <br />John Roberts asked the BOCC to consider the Manager’s recommendation to deny. <br />Chair Dorosin clarified that the Manager’s recommendation is to deny this refund <br />request. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to <br />approve the Manger’s recommendation, denying the refund request. <br /> <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br />d.
