Update on the Manufactured Home Park Initiative 21 <br />The Board received an update on the activities undertaken to date, as well as those that 22 <br />are upcoming, as it relates to the County’s Manufactured Home Park Initiative. 23 <br />Sherrill Hampton said the mobile home park issue is a small part of a bigger picture, and 24 <br />Orange County has done so much more for affordable housing, and she is glad to be a part of 25 <br />these efforts. 26 <br />Sherrill Hampton reviewed the information below: 27 <br /> 28 <br />BACKGROUND: 29 <br />The last update provided to the Board occurred on March 20, 2018. At that time, there were two 30 <br />(2) manufactured home parks in threat of closure – Lakeview in Chapel Hill and Homestead 31 <br />located on NC 86 South. Residents in the Homestead Mobile Home Park were given until 32 <br />March 31, 2018 to relocate. The County is leading the effort to provide relocation options for 33 <br />these residents. Since that time, the County staff worked with the park owner to secure an 34 <br />extension until June 30, 2018 as it relates to the deadline for residents to relocate. 35 <br /> 36 <br />During the March 20th regular BOCC meeting, the Board approved the parameters for a 37 <br />contract with EmPOWERment to provide relocation coordination services for the Homestead 38 <br />Mobile Home Park residents. The listing below details the efforts undertaken by staff since mid-39 <br />March 2018. 40 <br /> 41 <br />RECENT AND UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: 42 <br />• On March 17, 2018 - County staff met with the residents of Homestead Mobile Home 43 <br />Park to discuss and evaluate potential options for relocation. Residents did not select 44 <br />the option of securing units in a multi-family complex owned by a local nonprofit in 45 <br />Chapel Hill. All families selected the option of an alternative manufactured home park. 46 <br />County staff continues efforts to identify housing options based on the families’ selection 47 <br />preference. 48 <br />• March 21 – March 23, 2018 – County staff refined required features of the proposed 49 <br />new manufactured units, especially those that add to the sustainability of the units, 50
