She said the Clean Path 2025 plan 2 <br />is an alternative plan to Duke Energy’s plan for new gas plants, as a way to achieve renewable 3 <br />energy. 4 <br />Kim Piracci said the Board of County Commissioners signed a resolution last September 5 <br />for Orange County to be fossil-free by 2050, and she said the Commission for the Environment 6 <br />is very active in this area, and Brennan Bouma, Sustainability Coordinator, said the Covenant of 7 <br />Mayors lays out how to proceed. She said she hopes the BOCC will approve this. 8 <br />Bill Black said he supported the other two speakers. He said this Global Covenant of 9 <br />Mayors brings different solutions to this problem that they are willing to share, and by joining 10 <br />this, Orange County would join a community seeking to address a common problem. He 11 <br />encouraged the Board of Commissioners to support this. 12 <br />Suzy Lawrence said she is in strong support of this letter, and joining this covenant will 13 <br />make tools available. 14 <br /> 15 <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Rich to 16 <br />authorize the Chair to sign a letter indicating Orange County’s commitment to the Global 17 <br />Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy as requested by the Orange County Commission 18 <br />for the Environment. 19 <br /> 20 <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS 21 <br /> 22 <br />John Roberts said two members of the public here tonight to speak to Item 8-d. He 23 <br />asked if the Board would consider moving this item up. 24 <br />The Board agreed by consensus. 25 <br /> 26 <br />8d. Refund Request – Sports Endeavors, Inc. 27 <br />The Board considered voting to adopt a resolution regarding denial of a refund request 28 <br />submitted by Sports Endeavors, Inc. 29 <br />John Roberts said taxpayers are permitted to make refund requests for taxes believed 30 <br />to have been collected for unlawful purposes, or where clerical error has occurred. He said 31 <br />Sports Endeavors, Inc. has made such a request, which is before the BOCC now. He said staff 32 <br />has studied the issue closely, and made a recommendation to deny the request. 33 <br />John Roberts asked the BOCC to consider the Manager’s recommendation to deny. 34 <br />Chair Dorosin clarified that the Manager’s recommendation is to deny this refund 35 <br />request. 36 <br /> 37 <br />A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to 38 <br />approve the Manger’s recommendation, denying the refund request. 39 <br /> 40 <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS 41 <br /> 42 <br />d.
