2

Matt Williams made the following PowerPoint presentation: 1
2
Durham Tech 3
2018 – 19 Orange County Budget Presentation 4
5
Orange County Campus Enrollment 6
Highest Enrolled Programs 7
Durham Tech’s Orange County Campus programs with the highest enrollment include our Arts, 8
Sciences, and University Transfer programs; Public Safety programs; and our Health programs. 9
We also serve a large group of students who come to take one or two courses (visiting 10
students). 11
12
Recent High School Graduates 13
Enrollment of recent high schools graduates has increased dramatically since Orange 14
ConnectFunds became available. For 2016-17 academic year, a total of 167 Orange Connect 15
fund scholarships were awarded totaling $83,500. In the 2017-18 academic year, 298 16
scholarships were awarded totaling $149,000, not including summer 2018 term. 17
18
Dual-Enrollment Students 19
Durham Tech continues to experience enrollment increases for students who are dually-20
enrolled in high school and Durham Tech. In the Fall Semester 2016, 56 Career and College 21
Promise (CCP) students enrolled at Durham Tech from Orange County. In the Fall Semester of 22
2017 we had 78 CCP students from Orange County. In addition, there are 51 high school 23
students from the two school districts in Orange County currently enrolled in our Middle College 24
High School program. Early Fall Semester 2018 enrollment data indicate this number will 25
increase again. 26
27
Orange County Enrollment (table) 28
Note: Total Seats Used represents the overall number of students enrolled in all the curriculum 29
and Con Ed classes each academic year. 30
Unduplicated headcount for curriculum students also indicates significant growth as there were 31
611 OCC students in 2008-2009 compared to 1,066 OCC students in 2016-2017. 32
33
ConnectFunds Recipients Demographics (table) 34
A total of 178 students have received Orange County ConnectFunds this academic year. 35
Orange ConnectFund recipients represent graduates from Orange county high schools, with 36
the largest groups coming from Orange High School, Chapel Hill High School, and East Chapel 37
Hill High School. 38
39
Commissioner Rich asked if there is a reason why more males are receiving 40
scholarships. 41
Matt Williams said it is not that more males are receiving scholarships, but just that 42
more males are coming from the high schools to Durham Tech. 43
44
Student Retention – Term to Term (table) 45
Durham Tech provides a range of supports so that our students stay in college and complete 46
what they start. These data represent the retention rates for three groups of students: a) first-47
time Durham Tech enrollees (all ages) for a given fall term; b) first-time recent high school 48
graduates enrolled at the college; and c) first-time Orange ConnectFunds recipients. 49
50
