<br /> <br /> <br />Animal Services News <br /> <br />August 16, 2017 <br /> <br />1. July Shelter Stats <br />a. The (adjusted) live release rate was 93 percent <br />b. Positive outcomes included: <br />i. 192 adoptions (76 percent) <br />ii. 31 reclaims (12 percent) <br />iii. 12 transfers (5 percent) <br />c. Two hundred and fifty four (254) animals were admitted <br />d. In total, 560 animals were sheltered <br />i. Cats accounted for 191 of these animals <br /> <br />2. Staffing Updates <br />a. Two vacancies remain: <br />i. One Animal Control Officer <br />ii. An Administrative Assistant <br />b. We are also in the process of hiring a seasonal Animal Care Technician <br />c. Recent hires include: <br />i. Two Animal Control Officers <br />ii. One Animal Care Technician <br />iii. An Assistant Program Coordinator <br />d. Much training is underway and the training process for new staff will continue into for <br />the foreseeable future. <br /> <br />3. Program Developments <br />a. Community Spay Neuter Program <br />i. Received a $16,500 award from the Margaret T. Petrie Spaying and Neutering <br />Foundation. <br />ii. Eligibility will be broadened to include residents with household incomes up to <br />400 percent of the federal poverty level. <br />iii. Efforts are underway to launch the broadened the broadened program <br />b. Beyond Fences <br />i. Beyond Fences (formerly the Coalition to Unchain Dogs) is unable to accept new <br />clients in Orange County because of their human resource constraints <br />ii. They are continuing to serve existing clients in Orange County <br />iii. They have not ruled out restoring services to new clients but that is far from <br />certain. <br />c. Animal Identification <br />i. Friends of Orange County Animal Services (FOCAS) donated $2,000 to offset the <br />cost of making microchips part of the adoption package and fee
