BACKGROUND: Pursuant to N.C.G.S. 105-322, a Special Board of Equalization and Review was created by a Resolution adopted by the Orange County Board of Commissioners on January 24, 2005. The Clerk's office has advertised and recruitment has also been done by the Tax Assessor's office, with several applications received. The Orange County Special Board of Equalization and Review shall consist of three regular members plus alternate members, each to serve for a term in accordance with G.S. 105-322. One regular member shall serve as chair of the Board of Equalization and Review. The following applicants wish to be considered for alternate positions only: Lee Butzin, Tom Heffner, and Tim Keply. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Each member will be paid $75.00 for each meeting they attend, and the chair will be paid $100.00 for each meeting attended. The funds are included in the Tax Assessor's budget. RECOMMENDATION (S): Appoint three regular members, and the remaining applicants as alternate members, on the Special Board of Equalization and Review, all with terms ending with the appointment of a new Special Board of Equalization and Review; and appoint one regular member to be the Chair of the Special Board of Equalization and Review.
