<br /> <br />Animal Services News <br />April 15, 2015 <br /> <br /> <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />• Year to date there have been 4 laboratory confirmed rabies cases— 3 raccoons and 1 bat. <br />• An article about coyote incident reports from 2014 appeared in the News of Orange and it is <br />expected to appear in the Chapel Hill News as well. <br />o A map of incidents was created and posted on our coyote webpage (attached). <br />o Highlights include a large number of reports in the towns; limited hazing; and lost <br />cats, among other animals <br />• Animal Services staff has been attending Zone 4 Community Partner Meetings for the Orange <br />County Family Success Alliance. <br /> <br />UNIFIED ANIMAL ORDINANCE <br />• Approved by the Chapel Hill Town Council on April 13, 2015. <br />• Discussed by the Carrboro Board of Alderman at its March 27, 2015, meeting. <br />• County staff will be talking with Carrboro staff about the items raised in discussion in the <br />coming weeks. <br />• Carrboro and County staff will be working together to return the ordinance to the Board of <br />Alderman as a decision item in the near future. <br /> <br />STAFFING & STAFF TRAINING <br />• Interviews are now being conducted to hire a new Veterinary Health Care Manager. <br />• There is one open Animal Care Technician position and it is being re-advertised. <br />• The selection process for 2 vacant Animal Control Officer positions is coming to a close. <br />• Two Animal Control Officers will be attending the National Animal Control and Humane <br />Officer Training (Module A Curriculum), May 5-8, Kannapolis, North Carolina. <br />• Animal Services staff received comprehensive safety training on April 1, 2015. <br /> <br /> <br />UPCOMING EVENTS <br />• Animal Services Volunteer Social, Animal Services Center, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April <br />16, 2015 <br />• Animal Services will be present at the first annual Roger’s Road and Eubank’s Road <br />Community Neighborhood celebration on Saturday, April 18. <br />• Animal Services will be present at the Saturday, May 9, 2015, My Brother’s Keeper Youth <br />Summit. <br />• Animal Services will be participating in Orange County’s Earth Evening, an event for children <br />on April 24, 2015. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Prepared by Bob Marotto, <br />Animal Services Director
