Animal Service News <br />January 22, 2014 <br /> <br />COMMUNITY GIVING FUND <br />• Animal Services has received $10,672 in dedicated donations since January 2013 <br />o Donations were dedicated to the following: <br /> Medical Care for Adoptable Animals ($5,476) <br /> Community Spay & Neuter ($3,164) <br /> Promoting Adoptable Pets ($1,332) <br /> Enhanced cat sheltering ($363) and dog exercise area ($335) <br />• Please pass the word to stakeholders, friends and other community supporters! <br /> <br /> <br />PLACEMENT PARTNER PROFILES <br />• Partnerships are fundamental to our work and to our success <br />• Private (non-profit) partnerships include <br />o Placement partners (aka rescues) for animal placement <br />o Coalition to Unchain Dogs for compliance with tethering ordinance <br />o CLAWS for wildlife rehabilitation and public information about wildlife <br />o Kids4Kindness responsibility/humane education program for fourth grade students in <br />county schools <br />• Request that the ASAB continue to host partners on a regular basis <br /> <br /> <br />FISCAL YEAR 2013 2014 BUDGET PREPARATIONS <br />• They are officially underway! <br />• ASAB will again have a role in review of referred non-profit agency applications for funding <br />• With respect to operations, direction is to prepare a “continuation budget” <br />• Notable Animal Services requests: <br />o Fees related to ordinance changes <br /> Requirement for microchipping of recovered animals and related fee <br /> Differential recovery fee for intact (reproductive) and sterilized animals <br />o More Support for Shelter Operations (Animal Care and Veterinary Health Technicians) <br /> In past 3 fiscal years (2011-2013), only fully staffed 25% of time. <br /> Of months with vacancies, there were 9 with 1 (33%), 13 with 2 (48%), 4 with 3 <br />(15%) and 1 (4%) with 4. <br /> For these 3 years, there was an average salary shelter staff savings of $45,190 <br />• ASAB support requested in manner similar to past years. <br /> <br /> <br />HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS &RECENT SHELTER STATISTICS <br />• Home for Holiday accomplishments are summarized in attached column <br />• One hundred and thirty-four (134) adoptions in December 2013 with an 85% live release rate. <br />• Ninety-six (96) adoptions month to date for January (2014) <br />• 2013 performance statistics (shelter, field and others) will be available at next meeting. <br /> <br />By Bob Marotto, Animal Services Director
